Tess is one of my faves. Moderate & typey. Maybe not the prettiest dog in the world, but undeniably a nice girl. I feel like I short-changed her by not having the time to do anything with her as she was growing up. She definitely could have been a super little versatility dog. She was born just a month after we purchased our " fixer-upper " in a rural area. The project went on for more years than we expected, so she never got to go to doggy classes & get trained. After 5 years of "Do- It- Ourselves" remodeling projects, we called it quits on the torture and got back to our other hobbies.
My Tessy grew up while we were busy. So I started looking around for an acceptable 'working line' male to breed her to. I wanted to retain her stock sense & her enthusiasm for work. And of course, hopefully get something out of her to show in the conformation ring. My friend had a little working bred male that I was looking into, but when she sent me pictures of her Miniature Aussie boy ....... I made plans to use him instead. Afterall, if I was gonna have a mini, it should be out of my Tess and a cute boy like Oliver.
I bred Tess to Oliver and in October 2006, we had four lovely puppies to pick from. I wanted a female, but the only male in the litter turned out to be so much like his mother, that I could not resist keeping him as well. At birth I knew which female that I wanted ~ the black one, of course, it's my favorite color of Aussie ! But as the weeks went by, I felt I should give both of the two small ones a bit more time to grow up before making a decision on the girls. Problem is, neither one really grew much ..... so naturally, I had to keep them both. Besides, they had become very attached to each other and it would be wrong to separate them (at least that's the story that my hubby heard ) < ha ha >.
A year and a half after she had her first litter, Tess had her second litter, which was sired by Bo. See photo of Tess & Bo below.
